I am a father, co-parenting and learning from them every single day. Fatherhood is the most precious and valued role life has afforded me.
I am passionate about making the most of life outdoors; you can find me with my van embracing "van life" and everything nature has to offer: Dartmoor, Exmoor and the rugged Devonshire Coastlines are my 'happy places'.
I was raised in North Devon, then relocated to London aged 7, where I was schooled, grew up and then worked in the city. I have worked in many fields, including Sports Broadcasting, sales, corporate hospitality and a long stint as a legal and financial recruiter. I have also set up and run a number of businesses, one being a successful transport company, proving coaches to hundreds of schools across the southwest, as well as clients such as ITV, Decca Records, The Care Quality Commission, and The BBC, to name but a few.
I have also got my hands dirty, grafted, worked in the mud & rain. I have enjoyed every experience.
I started my working life at the age of 12, working in a pet shop, at a garden centre, as well as at London's famous Greenwich Market, for a family business and other stall holders.
I attended Army Cadets; this was an invaluable experience, many lessons learnt which are still with me to this day.
Growing up in London was in itself an education: from an early age navigating life, the streets, people, situations and schools (we moved a lot and I attended many schools). Always the "new boy" it came with a lot of hurdles.
As for most, life has not always been on the up. I have made bad choices, said yes, didn't always stop to think. I have lived through some testing times (like many) as a child, teen and adult.
Lessons have been learnt. The most valuable being an understanding of the word "No". A lesson I bring to, and explore with, every student I mentor.
"The Power of NO"
Covid hit, the world changed overnight, as did I. As did life for us all. I needed to do something rewarding. I wanted to leave the corporate world behind.
I fell into this industry, I was told "you would be good at this" by two individuals, one a parent with child struggles, the other a legend within the industry, an inspirational lady and now a valued friend.
I listened and took it on board.
Over the past 4 years I have honed my skills as a Young Person Practitioner. I pulled on the strings of my own life journey and now bring to the table ability, passion, and a resounding desire to help young people make the right choices.
To reconnect young people with life; opening their eyes to their potential, empowering them, developing self-belief and encouraging them to always be true to who they are. I will help with regulating behaviour, looking at triggers, and building coping strategies. We will talk about the past, but not let it define who we are today.
I give young people space and time: to become comfortable, to trust, to respect and to open up, all without ever using the word "feelings".I will look to instil a number of life lessons, such as the importance of mutual respect, along with communication skills and honesty.
For me Recon Devon is all about "connection", connecting elements that allow us to move forward in life and to grow organically.
"What happens, happens, but we can be ready, adaptable and able to cope".
