What Is Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL)?
EFL is an experiential process of equine-assisted activities centred around improving personal growth and developing life skills. We focus on the “now” and “the future” and by using the power of the horse, it can enhance learning and communication skills along with helping with problems with trust, boundaries, emotions, relationships, leadership. It is a non-therapy, trauma informed approach which enhances quality of life.
It is an adaptable and versatile programme developed by a qualified professional tailored to an individual’s needs and can assist with building confidence and self-esteem whilst we learn about ourselves and our own emotions.
EFL is a learning process that uses an equine partner as a co-facilitator of adaptable active and reflective exercises that focus on enabling the client to have greater control of their emotions by increasing their window of tolerance and resilience, thus developing self-regulation.
EFL is about creating change, and we can use what is learned in the sessions to take out into our everyday life.
It is about learning about ourselves, and how we are in the moment and developing self-awareness. One we have achieved this; we can explore what happens when we change.
EFL uses the equine/human relationship to help with:
• Self-esteem / self-confidence
• Improving social skills / boundaries
• Improves life skills such as responsibility, respect, work ethic, self-motivation
• Increase leadership skills, or honing relationship/communication skills
No equine experience or knowledge is required.
Summary:
EFL is a bespoke programme of activities using the horse as a partner to help develop life skills. It can help with confidence, self-esteem and enhance learning whilst increasing self-awareness and greater control over our emotions resulting in improved tolerance and resilience. We learn about ourselves, which allows us to create our own changes within, and in our approach to situations, which we can then take outside of the session and put into practice into everyday life.
Our Equine Assisted Therapy and Learning sessions are also available for private clients, individuals & groups during school holidays
